Todd Johnson, LAC
I specialize in working with couples who are seeking more intimate connection, who want to break free of their negative communication patterns and cultivate more love, support and erotic intimacy together. I help couples heal from emotional injuries, including betrayal, where trust is damaged, or destroyed. Discovering a partner’s secret erotic life, compulsive or out-of-control sexuality (often labeled as sex addiction or porn addiction), and infidelity can be devastating, I can guide you through the healing process.
I also work with individuals and couples of all sexual orientations and gender identities, who are struggling with sexual challenges. I have a sex-positive approach to therapy and will work within your own value system to help you achieve sexual wellness. Challenges addressed often include mismatched desire, erectile/ejaculation problems, absent/low desire, out-of- control sexual behaviors (sex or porn addiction), infidelity, religion-based sexual shame, disturbing fantasies and sexual trauma.
Additionally, I work with first responders and their partners. As a first responder myself, with more than twenty-five years on the job, I know first-hand the impact stress has on us and our relationships. I also know the negative coping strategies we sometimes employ to deal with the job, and the damage it inflicts on us and those we love.
As a Licensed Associate Counselor, I utilize a counseling approach called Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy which is empirically proven to help couples create more trust and intimacy.I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy very effective in resolving the effects of past trauma. I am also receiving specialized training in sex therapy, working toward becoming an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. I work under the supervision of Isa Jones, LMFT, CST, and Kim Glenn, LPC, CST, at the Scottsdale Center for Sex and Relationship Therapy.
